They reopen 11.00 - 19.00 on SUNDAY like all other shops, it's a holiday tomorrow!

Maybe I am missing something, and if I am please let me know, but I can only find 2 public holiday notifications for Cyprus (Republic) in January 2016.

Friday, January 01 New Year's Day & Wednesday, January 06 Epiphany

I did however find this in the Cyprus Mail. Not entirely sure what ‘Specialty stores are'
http://cyprus-mail.com/2015/12/23/general-stores-to-close-on-holidays/

"ALL general stores will remain closed on Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, January 2 and January 6, according to an announcement by the Labour ministry.
Specialty stores may remain open on these days, but under the law employees must be compensated with double pay per hour of work.
On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve all general stores must shut by 6pm."

I received a text from Alpha Mega informing me that all their shops, except the one at Skarinou, would be closed on the 1st and the 2nd January. The stores would reopen on 3rd January 11:00 till 19:00. Open as normal from 4th.

Supermarkets are have always been closed on Jan 2nd, I can't understand people who don't plan and get enough food in?!It's not as if 2 days without a supermarket being open is a disaster!

Basics can be bought at any number of bakeries and periptero, albeit at a slightly higher price but........!
