Geoffreys, I find it difficult to believe the Inland Revenue will not require a tax return according to the circumstances you have quoted. Personally, I prefer to complete one each year, as that is the only way I will receive official notice from the IR in Cyprus that I have "nil to pay". As I don't bother to read the "other forum" you mention, is there any official source where that information supposedly came from?
I did not say, nor did the said other forum poster, that they did not require a completed form.
What was said was they were not going to send out forms to all, in a bid I gather to save money.
Firstly the savings in postage, labour, etc. Secondly it puts the onus on YOU to go in and
declare if you earn over the €19.5 threshold.
I don't know what percentage of residents earn under that, and how many over, but I
would guess (that is all it is!) 50:50.So a good saving to the Revenue Service.
As I happen to earn under it, it is good news for me - if correct info.
I welcome comments - but I would like to know if the info is correct.
Geoff.
P.S. If I have to I will go in and see them, trying to avoid that - the forum is always my first choice.
Incidentally I have sent in completed forms every year for 12 years. So far they have
assessed me up to tax year ended 31/Dec/2008. Always Nil tax to pay.
Me, and others like me, would if this is true represent not just postage etc savings, but
the cost of checking a submitted form when no tax is due anyway!
