Is the Paphos Marina actually going to happen?

Officials in Paphos have welcomed the announcement by Aristo Developers that the long-awaited marina project will soon get underway, following a ruling by the Supreme Court.
On Monday, the court announced a judgement in favour of applicant ‘Poseidon Grand Marina’, a joint-venture, in which Aristo developers is a major shareholder.
Head of the Kissonerga community council George Stylianou told the Cyprus Mail: “There is now finally a decision, and we now expect the winning consortium to start building this project as soon as possible. There are only draft plans at the moment, but once building plans have been passed and permits granted, we hope that they will be in a position to commence work next year.”

The proposed marina at Potima in Kissonerga will be a crucial project for Paphos and a landmark development for the coastal town

Yes, I genuinely believe it now will go ahead, though it won't appear overnight. Let's not forget that Aristo were one of the key partners in creating the Kings Avenue Mall, which many at the time said would never be completed.

Interesting site.........http://www.paphosmarina.com/

I noticed yesterday that a large area had been cleared and was ready for house building.

If it does go ahead, how much pandemonium will it cause on the Potima Bay road with heavy plant etc

Finally! When we first bought our land here they were talking about the marina which was about to be constructed, and that was back in 2001!! Hopefully it will now commence. The people who have bought houses near there must be thrilled it's finally happening.

The best thing that happened for Limassol was the building of the new marina.

However, the real main advantage is the location that it's within walking distance of the old town and excellent for tourists plus local alike. The old town and around the castle is a hive of activity in the evenings and weekends so being able to take in 2 places within a short walk of each other has kept both places alive.

Personally, I would have thought it would make more sense for Paphos to do something similar by extending the frontage of the existing harbour and keeping the new marina within easy access to tourists heading for the shopping and pedestrianised area.

Houses close by will go up hugely in value, particularly if close to the marina and with good views out to sea. The mess and inconvenience during the build process will be worth putting up with

There are some very wealthy individuals moving in to Cyprus right now. From the Middle East, Lebanon, China. I was at a new house near the King Evelthon last week which must have cost it's Chinese owner at least 1-2 million. It was so big that at first glance it looked like a communal project. The new owner speaks barely a word of English

Oh well, if it has the same rate of "progress" as the TOK dual carriageway, should be completed about 2022!!

Constantinou Brother are a quality company when it comes to hotels, so their involvement in the marina is to be welcomed:

Constantinou Hotels participates in Paphos marina
Simos Simou — 24/12/2015

Constantinou Bros Hotels will participate in the Paphos marina project according to an announcement of the company on Wednesday posted on the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE).

The announcement came after the Supreme Court excluded the joint-venture Cybarco-Pandora from undertaking the Paphos Marina project and initiated negotiations with the second in line successful applicant Poseidon Grand Marina joint-venture, in which Aristo developers is a major shareholder.

Constantinou Bros Hotels is the owner of four, 4 and 5 star hotels, all on the west coast in Paphos. No details were announced at this stage as to the role and contribution of the company in the Paphos marina.

I would imagine given the amount of investment needed from outwith the Island and the number of partners involved that once it starts it will crack on at a good pace. Lets hope its a marina to be proud of and not a slum in the making.

Personally I dont want a marina in this location however this is where its been proposed so hopefully it will be a good one.

Would be great if someone installs a webcam in order that we can all see the progress during the next few years of construction, perhaps at Sonny's tavern.

We spoke to the developer on Friday and this Marina will take years to get off the starting blocks.Reason number one...no money!Investors needed!Secondly,no permits have been issued to build and this will take years. So sadly,it doesn't sound imminent.

Were you looking at the correct location? The proposed marina site is at the Coral Bay end of Potima Bay, between the two rivers. There doesn't seem to be any work going on there.

I asked at the village office (in whose area this is) a couple of days ago and they said they had no knowledge of any start date for the development.

I drove as far as we could Quite a way. Stopped at the end. There along the coast, were two trenches with large diameter black pipes. Part of the trenches were already back filled.

Had a nose round there today. From the flag markers on the ground it looks like they are building an access road from the Korantina homes hoardings (just the Paphos side of the Coral Bay roundabout) to the shore line. A considerable amount of material has been dug out for this with lots more to follow by the looks of it. Also the river bed alongside the road has been dug out and cleared.

You can see where it is here - http://www.korantinahomes.com/en/proper ... arina.html . If you go to the small images on this web page and enlarge the 8th one you will see it.

Thank you for the updates. I'm in the UK, so seeing these and the Korantina hoarding/riverbed description helped place it better for me. I look forward to more updates and pictures...and to seeing for myself if there's any difference by July.

Aha! Thanks.
Now I know the name of the "river", yeah - it's just dry riverbed, I spent an half hour to get out of it, when did decide to check if I could get back to my car using it as pedestrian track. Next time I should borrow a chain saw for such walk :taz

Seems it could be getting closer to a reality:

Paphos marina’s constructor selected
incyprus — 10/05/2016

The Poseidon Grand Marina of Paphos consortium was on Tuesday awarded the tender for the construction of the town’s marina.

According to a Commerce and Tourism Ministry announcement on Tuesday, the decision was taken during a Marinas Management Committee meeting.

The Committee, according to the announcement, took into consideration an opinion on the issue submitted by the Law Office of the Republic.

A letter to the winning consortium called on The Poseidon Grand Marina of Paphos to now submit all the required documentation and sign the relevant contract.

“Today’s decision by the Marinas Management Committee is a step forward in the realisation of an infrastructure project important for the district of Paphos and for all of Cyprus and something that got underway a decade ago,” the Ministry said.

It noted the Marina would have berths for some 1,000 vessels and include over 42,000 square metres of residential and commercial developments.

The tender for the Marina had in 2007 been awarded to the Cybarco-Pandora consortium of which the Leptos Group was part of, in 2008.

However, the other two consortiums who had bid for the project challenged the award, at various stages, and it has since been in limbo.

The project had been frozen since litigation began after it was awarded in 2008.

In late December last year, the Supreme Court announced a judgement in favour of applicant ‘Poseidon Grand Marina’, a joint-venture, in which Aristo developers is a major shareholder.

Never mind the marina, when is Paphos going to happen again? Still a mess in the middle with various roadworks, diversions. speed restrictions, etc.
Over this end Ayia Napas isn't much better.

Not sure the latest photos are at the same location as the original ones? As far as I was aware the Paphos marina was/is going to be close to Coral Bay.

If I remember correctly when the last announcement was made from the company awarded this contract that the building was due to start this March - the villas etc are a separate thing and as we all know developers have been selling properties with 'marina views' for a very long time!

I do think it will happen this time though given the proven success of the other marinas on the island!
