Yesterday my son was sitting in the car outside Smart on the Polis Road, opposite Sports Direct, when he was approached by an Eastern European man asking him if he wanted to buy a watch and showing him what appeared to be a brand new watch in a presentation box. He declined and the man moved on.

When he told me about it my thoughts were that either it was a fake watch or perhaps one stolen in the break in on Makarios Avenue.

I have obviously passed that information on but just wanted to warn people to keep an eye and to try and discreetly get a photo if possible. We have a dash cam in the car but the guy approached from behind so wasn't picked up.

Well done Band - sounds like it could be related.

I was approached by a man selling "iPhones" whilst I was in my car, at Sports Direct. He was quite insistent, in an overly friendly way. Possibly same group?

The obvious thing to do is to ring the police.

Possibly but there has been a group approaching people in car parks selling dodgy phones for ages, long before the latest jewellery shop robbery. I understand that when you say you'll have one they usually take your money then spin a line about fetching you one from their car, present you with an empty box when they return and make a sharp exit before you realise you've been scammed!

Two or three years ago, outside a supermarket, I was approached by someone selling supposedly new, boxed iPhones, latest model. You'd have to be pretty dim to take up such an offer, as there is no guarantee that the product inside is as described on the box; and needless to say, you have no recourse at any time if the phone fails to work. Ditto with watches.
