Just been reading this in the DM online. After six year he and Michele are divorcing over allegedly not agreeing on whether or not to have more children. Gary is 55 and has 4 sons with his ex wife f 20 years and apparently feels to old to be a father again. Michelle has a teenage daughter from her last relationship. I think there is more to this than what being quoted. Having more children is something which is discussed within a relationship. Michelles' body clock is ticking, maybe she wanted a child with Gary? It is not like they cant afford it.

Not a major topic this but thought it may provoke some light hearted discussion and thoughts.? :banana

Gary's wife is actually called Danielle, not Michelle.

Who gives a toss ? Other peoples " celebrities" sex lives. love lives, divorces etc etc etc are so boringly uninteresting to the vast majority of people with a single brain cell .

" In an interview in 2010 - the year after they were married - Gary admitted he was uncertain as to whether or not they should have more children.

'She has a child from a previous relationship and I have four of my own, so we are not sure if we want any more,' he told The Times newspaper.

'Some weeks it seems like a good idea, other weeks it doesn't. When we are on a plane and we hear screaming babies, it definitely doesn't' "

Mr Linekers personal stuff concerns me not one wee bit at all.... however 55 is not too old for kiddies.

I disagree Tanny

55 is too old to be having children
most women cannot have children by age 55 and that is because there is a reason
and so why must men differ

a child wants to enjoy their parents for as long as they can
at age 55 you can already not do what a young parent can do with a child, as you are already slowing down
at age 75 your child will only be 20 yrs old and he/she will need you to understand their needs which are not so many generations behind
at age 85 your child will only be 30 yrs old and just coming into their own

at 85 plus you the parent will probably need some kind of care or assistance if you are still alive, what a burden on a young adult

that is not fair on any child, to have to take care of the parent or have to take on that responsibility of an aging parent, when the child is still so young

at 55 most men have grandchildren........not children!

and that is the correct order of things

Garry Lineker sounds as if he thought about of all of these things

shame that they didn,t discuss the issues in full before they got married!

well done him

I agree Migmogs. Women were given a span of childbearing years, presumably for a reason!! I know from experience that I am so not equipped to deal with many of the issues my granddaughter raises, so recognise that the designated childbearing years were there for a reason!

Sorry, can't answer why men are given much longer years of childbearing propensity, can only assume that in those days the child rearing was clearly the woman's domain????

I do agree that children have the right to have their parents active in their lives throughout their childhood, which doesn't sit quite right with older parents, as I know from experience.

migmogs we will have to disgree (and George).

Before the child is even conceived you are already programming its future!!

Nature allowed reproduction for different sexes to different ages. maybe its the conventions created and adopted by society that are totally unnatural! Yes clearly the male of the species can go longer, nature decided that.

A child will find its own way ahead through life irrespective of the nature of the parents (even if they are no longer around) and in many cases such children are far better prepared for the world, more caring individuals than many programmed children who are spoilt in a protected environment.

Yes everyone always wants to be younger, more active etc etc but people are what they are at any point in time and the process can continue. If in a partnership one person has passed that age then fine its will probably remain childless but thats a lifestyle choice not necessarily a nature choice.

As for match.com of the day. MAD seems to know way too much about these things.

Its absolutely wonderful to enjoy grand children and great grand children but fatherhood is always an option while the body functions.

"...while the body functions". With men most things either cease to work, or leak.

Hhmm, yes fatherhood is almost always eminently possible Tanny, and I respect your other observations on parenting, I still feel that it is physically too much to cope with small children in advanced years, but also earth shattering for them to face life at a young age without the parent(s) they love dearly.

I married and had my first child at 21, my fourth at 38. The eldest is now married and I am enjoying two very young grandchildren.
My youngest son is in his first year of secondary school so it will be a while before he starts or finishes his family. If he has them at 50, I'll be long gone from this earth. I'm 50 myself this year!
Having them late, 40's or 50's, male or female, is not ideal, IMO.
