Hi

Almost posted this in legal section but I think it would possibly get as good a response here.

So - Monthly salary of x amount with 20 days paid annual holiday!

But how does it work in Cyprus?

I had 3 days off in April and have just received my first pay cheque. I am unaware of the exact laws here so please stay with me. It seems my day rate for the 3 days has been deducted from my pay. Then, to get the money back, I have to wait until June 2009 to put in a claim and get my pay from the Holiday Fund? NOT EXACTLY PAID HOLIDAY IS IT!

Is this the norm - is so, so be it. Just wanted to make sure if this is correct.

Thanks, S

I'm not sure if this is the norm, but I have known people in employment who have taken holiday and been paid as normal, and no-one has mentioned having to claim back later.

It isn't unusual for people to make their own rules up over here though, so this is no guarantee of the correct process!

Not sure if there is a 'Employment Law' over here yet & if there is, I doubt anyone follows it either

You could pm Mark (legal) but as his the law firm he works for is mainly Property, I'm not sure he'd be able to help or not but you could always ask, it won't do any harm :?

Hi,

I posted a reply on the other forum - so you should probably pick it up there....

All depends on what your contract says..... If you have one, of course  and also on how many contributions have been paid to your SI account.

I've worked with some companies that pay your holidays directly rather than having to claim from SI.

By request of Pete - here is the info........

You have to have 12 months contributions paid up within an 18 month period (I think it's 18 months anyway), then you can claim your full holiday entitlement from the SI. You complete the holiday request form and they pay you all 3 weeks holidays in one payment.

One lady who I worked with at another company told our boss, she wanted paying for her holidays as he hadn't paid our contributions when she took her hols in August last year - and that she would pay him back, when the SI paid up for her holiday claim. He did too!

You could post it here too, as some of our member who might like to read your reply might not have access anymore to the other forum :D :D

Hi

Thanks for the replies. Seems it is the norm.

Cypruswithbabies - in your reply you make refernce to receiving pay for 3 weeks? Why 3 weeks? Would I not be entitled to by 20 days annual allowance? Maybe I mis read the post.

Anyhow - thansk for the help!
