Hello Everybody

First, may I apologise for not being in touch sooner. There has been a lot
going on here at Network Cyprus as you will soon see.

Network Cyprus as an organisation, has many aims, one of which is to become
an active co-ordinating body on community issues. It is in line with this
aim that we have got involved in the Anti-Pet Poisoning issue as it is a
very upsetting one that affects so many of us.

Having researched it over the last few weeks, it is clear that co-ordinating
this issue is not going to be an easy task. There is a tremendous amount of
history that needs investigating, as well as many different organisations
who have worked or are still working on the issue today. There are also a
tremendous amount of facts and rumours that all need substantiating.

With this in mind, I am in the final stages of employing a person who will
have the sole responsibility of coordinating all efforts in this area.

In the first instance, she will be researching all the different
organisations that have anything to do with animal welfare in Cyprus. All
charitable organisations will be offered free advertising space on the
website.

She will also make contact with the relevant bodies and associations that
have been campaigning on the island to date as well as researching local and
EU policy on the issue.

She will keep you informed of her progress by regular e-newsletters. As soon
as her position is confirmed, I will email you her contact details.

I would like to ask you all to keep in touch with Network Cyprus via the
forum. This will enable you not only to let us know what your thoughts are,
but also to communicate with each other. I am disappointed to note that
there has been no use of the forum so far. If you are experiencing any
technical difficulties, please let me know.

As a co-ordinating body, an active forum is a powerful tool which can be
presented to the relevant authorites to demonstrate the size of the problem.

I hope this email goes some way to explaining what is going on regarding the
Anti-Pet Poisoning issue here at Network Cyprus. As I said in an earlier
email, it will take time, this is not a new issue and there are no quick-fix
solutions, but with commitment and persistence, progress will eventually be
made.

Stay well

Audrey Lowery
