Hi All

I've heard this morning that the boys in blue where out in Paphos yesterday (Uni' area) and fining people for using hose pipes etc.

I wonder how many Cypriots were fined against the amount of Ex-Pats?

Anyone know what the fine amount was???

It is about time it was done. I just wish they would give us a hotline number to report the use of hoses.

Just phone your local Water Board! The numbers are on your bill...

Yes but would they actually come out Stuart? Actually I have never seen a water bill for over two years now - I do pay them but because it is a DD the bank has stopped posting it to us and the Water Authority don't either.

Trish its OK reporting these people but I think they would have to be found with the hose in their hands with the water coming out- or it could be their word against yours so to speak. I will take a photo of the Andreas Tavern owner- hosing every day the out-side of the tavern as far as the road. and take that to the water board office -- they will probably say OH that's a nice photo of my sister can I keep it. :banghead

what about the muktars son in Tala! the muktar sent letters 2 everyone saying hefty fines 4 using hosepipes but his son is there every day hosing down 1 and half hours! they have the taverna in Tala, the 1 on the right as you start 2 go down the hill (not malitzias). He does it with such arrogance like he can't be touched because he's the muktars son, makes my blood bloil! i wars my car with dirty washing up water, then i get bathed in it, then i water my plants with it and if there's any left i make a cup of tea!!! :smilielol :smilielol :smilielol

So by the looks of it it is one rule for us expats and one for the Cyps - same as usual then.

I have even noticed that a lot of the locals are not hosing down anymore, even the ones with boreholes so some are paying attention to it. Just my next door neighbour who (well she has actually stopped hosing the road and footpath) still hoses every day her outside area and she is not an old local either. It just makes my blood boil. We are now so careful and with water that would normally just go down the sink we are saving it and believe it or not but you can lose about 6-8 gallons a day just running the water for washing up or waiting for it to get hot.

Anybody know if you can buy waterbutts here as our garden is now getting overwatered with what we don't let go down the sink? Steve has asked in a few DIY places and they don't know what he is on about. :doh

 chip and shoulder spring to mind. All of the Cypriots i know are more than aware of the water crisis and the lack of forethought by the government "they" voted in, i say "cultural differences" in how we listen, respond and when questioned react to rules, rather than strictly them and us rules.

Srange as this may seem having the water restrictions here in Chloraka has not been a bad thing. Water is off M,W,F so I wash clothes on the other days and conserve every drop I can in between, but I have to say it has not been hardship. I haven't noticed any great difference and my water consumption must have dropped dramatically.

It is the people with families and babies who will feel it more, but the rest of us can get on with it.

Jan :)

I have been looking for a water butt, however just bought another large dust bin with lid, fill it from water saved in shower etc, and use for garden.
