I attended for a six-monthly check-up & clean at the dentist in Peyia the other day, to be informed upon arrival that charges had been increased & my 'treatment' would now cost 60 euros.
To cut a long story short, I was told the reason the charges had been increased was "to cover the cost of other patients not attending for their appointments". I suggested that those not attending should fund any shortfall, but expecting others to make good the 'loss' suffered by the practice was not on.
By now thoroughly disenchanted, I cancelled my appointment & left, thereby no doubt contributing in a small way to the 'loss total' for the practice.
Can anyone advise a dental practice that in their experience provides good treatment at sensible prices?

Yep, Go to Dr Lenia Efthymiou Phone No 26 946863 (above New York Sweet shop) on the road past the law courts in Paphos.

Self and Mrs have been going there for 11 years, 6 monthly inspection €20 (she doesn't charge at all if no work required!!!!)

Maybe it would be a good idea to have a section for this kind of issue but covering all topics.

Ditto Dr Lenia. No charge if nothing needs doing. My small grandkids get done for free...and usually come away with a free tube of toothpaste each.

To load the cost of non-attendees onto paying customers is just not acceptable. Far better to phone patients the day before, like Dr Lenia does, to ensure that they're still coming.

Dr Lenia's office will also phone you, usually the day before your appoinment to confirm your attendance

Perhaps the Medical Centre has to pay for the setting-up costs of the new radio station in pafos!

I have never used the Dentist at Peyia Medical centre as I am also a devotee of Dr Lenia but I have had other appointments there and they text a reminder. I told them I thought this was an excellent idea as is Dr Lenias tel call but she told me that they had many missed appointments. I suggested that if this was the case then they should take a deposit when the appointment was made. She did not say that prices had increased however and certainly the chiropodist prices were the same so I would assume it may be the other practice in Peyia?

The medical centre in Peyia is run by Brits. Is the one by Phillippos in the village run by Cypriots. Would be interesting to know. We 've been going to Dr Lenia for 13 years, I think her phone call the day before your appointment is brilliant. The fact it stops non attendees keeps costs down, is evidence of its worth.

The newish Peyia Medical Centre is the one that the new charges apply to. I agree with Topgun, that the
notification of increased charges when you arrive for your appointment, is rather disconcerting, especially
as I was under the impression that the charge of 30 euros included a clean and polish in the regular
check-up. I went for my 6 monthly appointment recently, and was charged 65 euros, which I don't
quite understand why, as it does now say on their website 60 euros.
However, I did consider after attending what I should do in future, and decided on staying with them, as
the dentist I see there spotted and dealt with a problem 6 months ago, that originated from England, that had never
been attended to properly there, for which I was most grateful. Also, this time they are using a new
type of cleaning of the teeth, and I have to say my teeth are the whitest they have been for years.
It is, I suppose really up to each individual as to looking around for another dentist. In my case, I have
found a dentist who does an excellent job on corrective work, so I will stay with him, and stomach the
increased costs.

Been with my dentist in England for many years, and currently pay £49.50 every 6 months for examination, scale and polish; so would be happy with 60 Euro in Paphos

Can I ask Keving if that is the cost under a private dentist, or under the NHS system?
Interesting that you are with a dentist with whom you have confidence in, which is so important,
and therefore the reason I am staying with mine at Peyia Medical Centre.

Dr Lenia is an outstanding Dentist and very thorough - she managed to sort out a problem with my wife's jaw which cost us less than €100, otherwise it was a trip to Nicosia to see a specialist surgeon and a truckload of money.

We have complete faith in her, and appreciate that if there is no work there is no charge, and a scale and clean is €20 - she evens gives you an appointment chit which you hand in at the car park just up the road and park for free.

Cannot recommend her enough!!

Chris

Keving - is the scale ad polish done by your dentist or a hygienist?

Don't forget the excellent Dr Elena Demetriou in the Limnaria complex opposite Alexander The Great Hotel. 50 euros for a checkup with scale and polish. Reminder call the day before. Accepts credit and debit cards. Speaks English, Greek, German, and Dutch. Does the lot including implants.

Yes, it is by the new method, and is included in the 60 euros. Couldn't believe the difference it made migmogs.
