The 11th annual Paphiaskos and C.C.P Animal Welfare Dog Show is being held in front of the castle at Paphos Harbour on the 4th May.

According to their magazine it will be their best ever with over 50 stalls and plenty of entertainment for the children, including bouncy castle, magician, balloon sculpture, play and farm area, plus much more.
There will also be a refreshment arena selling food and drink. Additionally will be a section on Cypriot Art and Crafts including pottery and needlework.
The dog show arena will be the centrepiece and larger than ever due to extra entries, the dog show is open to all dogs, regardless of breed. Categories apply.

The finale will be a concert of fine tribute acts with a nominal charge of 10 euro for reserved seats. To reserve seats telephone:

Thanks Jan. I haven't been to one of these yet, so may go this year as my SIL is over. She is more of a cat person though, so I will have to see how she feels. I should hate to traumatise her.

Sounds as if it may be a fun day out.

Is there anyone on here who can enlighten me please?

When will Paphiakos be opening their new shelter?
Where will it be exactly?
How much money has been raised so far and how much more is needed?

Chris

ps have made the enquiries of the obvious already, which is why I am asking on here!!

I have recently taken posession of a food trailer (dont ask)..
So have decided to get it up and running until it is sold.
I have booked a space at the dog show , therefore I hope to meet up
with a few faces from the board, pop by and say hello to me when you are there.
We will be selling burgers, hotdogs , fish and chips , bacon rolls , tea , coffee etc,

Hi Judge,

I have e-mailed one of the marketing team and asked these questions for you, may hear something back later today.

Here are some impressive interesting facts about their work during 2007:

2536 dogs were rescued.
2976 cats were rescued.
228 dogs and 88 cats were re homed.
They dealt with 105 complaints.
115 animals were reclaimed.

I always wonder why this show is held at such a hot time of year.

I'd quite like to take our dog, but I know she won't cope with the heat down there, especially for any length of time.

No wonder you've been quiet on the board, you've been down the harbour working

You do realise there are only 24hr in the day Neil

Do you have a H&S certificate mate or don't they worry about those over here

dont you start  her indoors has already hit the roof about it.
yes you have to have H&S certificates , even road worthy certificates
even though its a trailer, it has to be taken for an M.O.T ..
But It is brand new , not second hand and will pass all these very easy..
private events dont need a licence , but if you want to work in a public area
on a reguler basis , then you need a permit for this ... I have gotten my lawyer to apply for this ..
Then I will sell it as a going concern.... If I am not dead first

Hi Neil, :congrats :congrats

What a brilliant opportunity to promote Paphos People. On top of all the dog enthusiasts, there will also be the general visitors/strollers on the harbour.

Do you have any banners to market PP that could be displayed on the trailer? What about some leaflets. Just an idea, of course
Heaven knows, every man and his dog - pun intended    - does leaflet campaigns on passers by.

Image

Good luck on the day, I won't be out until 7th May so will miss the day, but OH (Jan) will be making an appearance.

Yeah Neil, what's the establishment called :? :?

Maybe you should take the banner out of the Post Office & attach it to the trailer for onsite advertising, Great idea Graham :celebrate :celebrate

So who's actually doing the cooking :? don't tell me you have Oxanna slaving over a hot grill or are you wearing the chefs turnic

I've just had this imagine in my head of what you'll look like:

Neil,

Good luck old chap, dont expect to get a great deal of sympathy selling HOT DOGS at a DOG show. These sausages are full of reclaimed meat the source of which is often unknown.

I suggest your stall is named

NEILS RECLAIMED MEAT HOTDOGS FROM NON DOG SOURCES PROMOTING PAPHOS PEOPLE.

Is it a long trailer, it'll have to be for that name.

Owen and I will also be at the show selling our traditional UK sweets (Liquorice, Jelly Beans, Pear Drops, Refreshers, toffee etc) if anyone fancies something sweet after the savouries at Neils place! :popcorn

We are next to the kids area so I'd better go well equipped with paracetamol :bounce

Should be a good day out, all for a good cause and hope to see some PP's

Karen

When I left school at 16
The only qualification I had was how to survive the poor area
in which I was brought up..
So I took up an apprenticeship as a baker\confectioner , which I did for 10 years.
then I got sick of working nights, so started cooking in pubs ,, the berni inn style places..
So yes I can cook ,, I do all the cooking in our house , as my wife would burn a salad

Well put me down for a cofee and bacon sarnie first thing - then I'll be popping along to see Karen for a sugar rush which will keep me on my feet doing mini facial and lip spa demos - so come see me girls. Piglet had the benefit of me giving her kissable lips last weekend :piggy

If Neil misses this opportunity to promote PP he is going to get such an ear bashing. :tickedoff He is the Sales and MARKETING administrator.

I know the hot dog stuff won't be gluten free, but what about the traditional sweets? Are they GF Karen?

I will have my own "doggy bag" of GF goodies just in case I get peckish, but it is nice to know that you can just buy something if you fancy it.

So what happened to the 2536 dogs and 2888 cats that were rescued but not re-homed?

I don't understand why vets don't get involved in campaigning and lobbying the government to raise the bar with penalties for animal cruelty and abandonment. Surely it is better to spay or neuter an animal than for it to end up half starved and then euthanased?

Vets here seem to turn a blind eye to dogs being transported in metal boxes in searing heat, so I suppose it is too much to ask that they would want to stick their necks on the line and advocate for animal welfare.

Unfortunately most of them do contain gluten as I looked on the packaging, we have a notice that states if they DO contain gluten, nuts etc for people with allergies. However, I am looking to source some and will let you know if I manage to get any.

Incidentally, I bought some spice blends from Cazies Dips recently and they are nearly all gluten free. I know she has a stall at Fasouri market and she is usually at Fontaine Market on a Wednesday not far from our stalls.

Cazies Dips - don't they sell them in Polis? I think they are the ones Ruth (Minerva) was on about.

I am sort of getting used to not being able to just eat what I fancy. I am a bit of a miserable git about it though - I hate being restricted with anything. :( Bit of a free spirit, me.
