Hi

Can anyone suggest a GP that doesn't charge big consultation fee (I don't have my medical insurance yet!) I'm in Emba but can go anywhere really...do you have contact number also?!

Thanks

Dr Mala at Veramedica in Chloraka is reported to be very reasonable and very good.

Can wholeheartedly recommend Dr Dora at: Blue Cross Medical Centre, 51 Demokratias Ave, 8062 Paphos. That's almost opposite McDonalds. Contact: 26 961315 and 26 221111. She is caring, thorough, speaks good English and has all the time in the world for you. Believe an appointment is about €30, which is cheaper than some, but medical care and advice is not about finding the cheapest. Consecutive appointments usually work out less. Lloyd

What about the General Hospital? Maybe someone can confirm but I was given to understand they charge €15 to see a doctor if you don't have a medical card.

I usually see Dr Marangos but until I have insurance I do not want to pay over the odds for a simple infection! Believe me I know that that its not about finding the cheapest but in this case on this occasion it is!

Why not go to a good pharmacist then? They are incredibly knowledgeable and many drugs here do not need a script - try Tassos Aspros in Chlorakas near the kindergarten, he's superb.

Yes, most chemists will sell you antibiotics over the counter.

In October, a friend went to A&E at the hospital because of the severe pain in his ear. he was charged €10 to see a doctor who confirmed an ear infection and administered anti biotic ear drops. He gave him a script for more ear drops that he had to get at a local pharmacy at a cost of €6.50

A few weeks ago my blood pressure went very high - 236/92, when that happens in the UK my Dr gives me beta blockers, so I went to see Yiannis (ToK rd opposite Fat Mamas), he is very helpful and knowledgeable, sold me some for €10.50. All ok within a few days. I would certainly recommend him.

I can definitely recommend Dr Marangos and/or Dr Dora at Blue Cross Medical Centre as both have been involved over the years with my breathing problems and allergies.

With reference to Yiannis above, please give him your custom wherever possible. His business has been badly affected by the road works and is likely to be for some time. Those of us who use him know how friendly and helpful he can be and, in my view, is the best around.

I know there is another pharmacy on Tombs of the Kings Road next to the Hellenic Bank, but I have never seen her smile in 7 years. It feels like she is anoyed that I have gone in and bothered her.

Support the good guys.

I think Andri, the lady in the pharmacy next to the Hellenic, is lovely. Friendly, kind, knowledgeable and helpful way above and beyond the call of duty. I'm sure Yannis is great, but so is Andri.
