Congratz in advance if anyone can work this out.

There are 3 Cannibals and 3 Guards trying to cross a river but they only have a 2 man boat and if at any point the Cannibals outnumber the Guards they will eat them so how do all 6 people get across the river without anyone getting eaten

NOTE: someone must always bring the boat back and the people in the boat count as being on the side the boat is on,
Eg. 2 Cannibals are already across the river and one guard and one Cannibal go across in the boat, the Guard would be eaten.

Have a try at this one and I will post the solution later this week ... If I remember.

They all walk 475 meters upstream making sure they avoid the Rapids of Zenith, go around the Swamp of Death, and underneath the Torrents of Aphrozeus until they find the Bridge of Faith. Then they walk across the Bridge..

2 Cannibals cross, one stays one comes back.
Then a Guard and a Cannibal cross, the Guard gets off and the Cannibal goes back.
Then another Guard will cross with the Cannibal and get off, while the cannibal comes back.
The cannibal picks up the last Guard and drops him off and comes back to get the last cannibal

2 cannibals cross, 1 stays, 1 comes back.
2 cannibals cross, 1 stays, 1 comes back.
2 guards cross, 1 stays, 1 comes back, 1 cannibal comes back.
2 guards cross, both stay, 1 cannibal comes back.

All 3 guards now safely on opposite side of river from cannibals.
Cannibals now cross 2 at a time, 1 staying, 1 returning for 3rd cannibal.

Nice try, but surely your theory falls apart at step 1? If you set off the boat with two cannibals inside, unguarded, I don't think either of them will be coming back!

Firstly, that depends on how hungry they are, or whether they are prepared to wait for the hopefully unguarded Guard

Secondly, not mentioned in rules that cannibals have to be guarded at all times, just that you cannot outnumber guards with cannibals.

Thirdly, how about the 3 guards go across together, 2 in boat and one hanging off the side, and don't send the boat back for the cannibals.

Congratz PW in Polemi that is exactly right and you are right it dose not say in the rules that the cannibals must be guarded at all times.
