To those of us who live in paphos and are not on holiday.
What would you say is the thing about paphos that would make you want to come

What is the best thing that you think that paphos has to offer ??

The fact that they could meet me! The harbour area is pretty, the mosaics, good tavernas (sometimes hard to find!)

Not bad answers, but there must be more to a paphos holiday
than just the normal paphos tourist locations ??

I think the key to a good Paphos Holiday is to try and visit lots of Paphos attractions and even try some Paphos excursions, most of which you would easily find by visiting and joining a Paphos forum or just a general Cyprus Forum that has a section on Paphos Holidays, normally an internet search for phrases such as 'Paphos Holiday' should list some good results due to site members populating listings with relevant keywords ....

Does anyone that lives here really have anything good to say to those that live abroad to come on holiday to Paphos ?

You know, them weird type that walk around with the ski sticks , that look like they have lost there ski`s..

Of course potentially, the furthest some people walk is to the nearest pub, or join the queue for a free wedding meal!!

So clearly pubs, clubs, entertainment the sun, sea and feel good factor are some of the generic issues that bring people to ANY hotter destination.

However specifically Cyprus has shed loads of history, a unique geographical position, a varied and wonderful weather system and some political issues particular to the Island.

Therefore Cyprus really has to market the things it is good at or has in abundance or does better than anyone else. Promotion by the CTO for instance could be better, and incentives to spend € here rather than Spain should be found.

Paphos has a great history which can be traced back for thousands of years and in there somewhere will be a period that even the greatet dinosuars will enjoy so the history should be broken down. The presentation of Cultural artifacts and locations is generally poor and needs reevaluating and rebranded. The concentration on the harbour area tends to take away from other projects nearby.

There is a load of activities etc available privately which are often hard to find so a better sourcing facility is needed.

But why Paphos?

Because we liked it, it didnt mean a coach trip to Costa Brava and where else would we be able to enjoy a healthy bacon buttie.

Walk the lenght of the newist coastal path.

One of the things that the authorities have got right in Paphos and it does not cost a bean.

Great food, great people, historical sites covering 5,000 years of history, sun, beaches, Mediterranean lifestyle, ice cream vans and belisha beacons, widespread use of English, etc.

Tourists should be queuing up to get here. I just wish they would dress better (but that was another thread).

If I think back to holidays here before deciding to stay:

The things that appealed to me was the guaranteed weather, the entertainment available, the beauty of the island and the one thing we probably take for granted - the food.

i would rate the quality and quantity and value for money of food served in a typical taverna far higher than a similar establishment found in Spain, Canaries, France, Turkey or even Italy.

Plus, taxi drivers excepted, most Cypriots in the tourist areas are friendly, speak good English and have a very unique sense of humour.

I love living here but when I see coaches dropping holidaymakers off at hotels down the coastal road I do think to myself how disappointed I would be if that was me on that holiday.............the roads outside all dug up, nothing around you but GB's and Paphos Computers, that area looks really tired and boring, its not a stroll to either Coral Bay or TOTK, there are other area's that would make me feel like that too............................I know we all like different things from a holiday but I like to be able to do a gentle stroll and find a buzzying area with shops, restaurants and bars or a good night market.

My last few holidays have been to Sharm el Sheikh, that ticks all the boxes for me, good weather, good service, good atmosphere and good value even when I've paid single supplement...................its also very very clean

Yes Paphos has some great things about it but not everyone wants the hassle or expense of hiring a car once they get here, I've not used the bus service so can't comment on how often they run or how late they can get you back but we all know the cabs will rip you off

Does anyone know how the tourist trade is doing this year?

For the Kids, - The Bird and Animal Park and Aphrodite Water Park. However, there are a lot better style of these parks in a lot of other places.

Has anyone the Tomb of the Kings itself?

We had a tourist day today and went to Adonis Baths - nice place, but they are chancing €9 for adults and €7 of kids, which is ripe off, for just some water falls and an 2 room old water mill. Especially as all the other falls we been to on the island are free.
