Hi, my friend and I are over in June to stay for 4 months. We are wondering if anyone knows of any jobs that are going in Paphos at the moment (part-time/full-time)?

Also, we are unsure if we need to apply for a visa for our stay? If anyone has any information that would be of help, It will be great if you can get back to us.

Thank you.

Sonia and Joanne.

Unfortunately there is little work here unless you are highly qualified, or prepared to work for peanuts. There are lots of Eastern Europeans here working for very low pay, and little else about, especially with the downturn in the housing market. You may be lucky, but then again . . . . . :greetings

As has already been stated jobs are thin on the ground here at present and are very low paid compared to other EU countries.
However: employment does tend to pick up during the tourist season with bar work and waitressing becoming more available.
If you are flexible and prepared to go to any area (including the villages) you may be lucky and find some sort of work.
Beware: there are a few unscrupulous A***holes who exploit vulnerable young girls. Then I guess thats the same the world over.

If you are European Union Nationality then you have the right to travel, live and work in any EU country. So NO you would not need a Visa.
You must however comply with the chosen country's tax, residency etc. regulations. You must register here if your stay exceeds 3 months for example.
If you're EU born any formalities can be sorted once you are here.

As an aside: There may be some seasonal bar work going in our village (Kathikas) in the next few weeks/months. I know of 2 bars which are intending to open, one of them very soon and I believe there is a new taverna being built which is scheduled to open late summer.

Kathikas is however way out of the tourist area and very quiet.

Stay away from the villages.
The time your gonna be here the will be loads of work in the harbour or in bar st dont listen to any of the rubbish people will tell you about bar st either.
if you like i know most of the bar owners on bar st and will personaly introduce you to them.
I take it you will be looking for bar/resturant work as a seasonal job it is the only work you will prob find.
feel free to PM if you would like a non doom and gloom chat on Cyprus and the work market.

Brian

As Brian said, if you are looking for seasonal work then you should be able to find plenty of jobs, just do not expect loads of money.

If, however, you want something specialist then you could be dissapointed.

Due to the lack of flights/volcanic ash my mother-in-law has been laid off from Paphos airport where she was earning a fortune kick starting jumbo jets.

Can I just say that there is some work around, granted not so much in Paphos, but there seem to be vacancies in Limassol and Nicosia, particulary for those who know the lingo and have professional qualifications.

For sure, I agree that in Paphos jobs are few and far between, and peanuts are often considered a bonus.

Gone are the days of flying over, landing a bar job and winging it for a few summers.

May I suggest timeshare - seems to be a winner and they all seem to have some left over to keep their nose sniffing.

I think thats a bit unfair, not to the timeshare industry, to these young ladies who do not want to be hated by the rest of society. :)

The irony was lost then? It was a back handed and vaguely disguised warning to two women who may arriving in a foreign country as to the type of people that work in this operation. A blanket assumption? Possibly - but not from the perspective of my wife who worked for one of the large timeshare operations for two months and left after being fed up of having it thrown in her face every day.

Hopefully you can read that clearly from being perched so far up on your high horse!

You would probably have been safer utilising this ---> to absolutely hammer the point home. <---See!

As to jobs in Paphos, our experience has been that if you're flexible and happy enough to work for relatively low pay then you'll always find something, especially in the summer months when the tourist industry is in full swing.

Blimey heck Charlie that was a bit blunt

Any way girls good see to you both trying to try new things. There are few jobs here and yes they are low paid but you can always give it a go just make sure you have enough money with you to get you home if it does not work. Right idea though with 4 months time frame as work in the winter is nearly impossible. But you could also try another part of the island that is less tourist based. Good luck with whatever you decide.

You'll never be any younger than you are today, heed the warnings, come with your eyes open (and lights on) and enjoy yourselves.

Theres good and bad everywhere, allow introductions and name droppings to help you wherever you go.

Remember if you are fit and can turn your hand to most things you will do well.

We very much encourage young fit women in Paphos :D
