I'm not computer literate and I need to do a system back up, however, I'm sure I read somewhere I will need a disk that should have come with my computer, but when I bought it no-one mentioned this so I do not have one. Any ideas please? I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

You don't need the disk that came with XP to do a backup. You should find the XP backup program by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. However, you do need some sort of external media (such as an external disk or USB memory stick) to store the backup on. You could, depending on the configuration of you computer, back up to CD or DVD but that's quite a slow option.

Hope that's helped a bit.

Thank you for the reply and advice adfam. I will try it but I am sure I read somewhere the back up programme is only on Windows XP professional edition and not the home edition.

Here's the instructions for installing Windows backup from XP Home:

If you use Windows XP Professional, the Windows Backup utility (Ntbackup.exe) should be ready for use. If you use Windows XP Home Edition, you'll need to follow these steps to install the utility:
1.Insert your Windows XP CD into the drive and, if necessary, double-click the CD icon in My Computer.
2.On the Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP screen, click Perform Additional Tasks.
3.Click Browse this CD.
4.In Windows Explorer, double-click the ValueAdd folder, then Msft, and then Ntbackup.
5.Double-click Ntbackup.msi to install the Backup utility.

I think this is going to be a little like the song 'There's a hole in my bucket Dear Liza'
