Tried several times without success to upgrade from IE7 to IE8. I am running Vista. I have Norton as my internet security . When I click on the IE icon after downloading the upgrade the computer tries to connect then stops working . Any clues as to what I should try? |

Norton is an octopus and may be preventing you loading the new programme, after using Norton to scan your download, which I guess you know you should always do, turn Norton off and see if IE will load. However, IE8 has had mixed reviews, I have not loaded it yet as I feel it will get better. I do however, use "Firefox" alll the time and only use IE for "Non Firefox Friendly" sites. |

Personally I am waiting for iE8 to be debugged and all the security patches in place before I download. |

Not specific to IE8 but to answer what can you try. I use Google Chrome as my main browser and very happy with it. For sites where there are issues i revert to Firefox, and IE for some MS sourced management consoles. |

Very similar to Big Dutch, I use Google Chrome for day-to-day non important stuff (it's very quick and easy) and Firefox for internet banking and other secure sites. Also, Firefox has a very good "IE Tab" Add-on which renders sites using the IE engine for the occasions where a site will only work properly in IE, so I never need to use the real and dreaded Internet Explorer at all. Malc PS - if you can't tell, I'm not big MS fan!!! |

Or, Firefox, Google Chrome and Avast, with Comodo as your firewall........................... All free............................ |

Maybe just stick with IE7 rather than trying to upgrade (that's computerspeak for 'change for the worse!') ? Have you tried ditching Norton (which isn't an easy thing to do, as it's a bit like a virus in itself )? |

Should anyone wish to remove Norton, don't attempt it without Norton's own removal tool, which can be downloaded here. http://service1.symantec.com/Support/ts ... 3108162039 |
