I'm currently using a Cyta Vodafone USB Modem as don't have a landline.

Have looked at the http://www.Cyprusinternet.com.cy website and found very competitive rates for their service.

Before committing, I wonder if anyone has any experience of this service that they are willing to share.

Hi,

I do not think that they cover Kouklia, and even if they did they are not a licensed provider under the laws here in Cyprus (or the EU for that matter)

www.cyprusinternet.com.cy wrote:
CyprusInternet.com.cy (D.S.S. Limited) is a fully Licensed Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP). We are Licensed to operate a 100% HyperLAN2 (5Ghz) Wireless Wide Area Network in Cyprus & hold authorisations for all currently active transmitters. Our equipment has been fully tested & approved by the Department of Communications (D.O.C.) Technical Department & licenced by the D.O.C. Licensing Department. Our equipment is Licensed under Article 18(3) of the Radiocommunications Laws of 2002 - 2006 & is certified for use by Cyprus and the EU along with 99% of other states & countries in the world.

Very opposing statements - confusing !

Just to clarify the above, DSS Ltd do hold authorisations for their transmitters at Tala, but do not have a General Authorisation to run a Public Service, ie. Provide any electronic communication service to the Public. Two Licenses are needed to run a service, in the UK you need not only a license from Radio Communications and you need an OFFCOM license - just as here. The Legistion is Law 112 (1)/2004 - the penalty of breach translated by babelfish from Greek is:-

According to the article of 149 [N].112 (I) 2004, person that creates, founds and/or it provides network of electronic communications and/or service without general authorisation it is guilty of penal offence, and it beings in the event his condemnation, in sentence of imprisonment that does not exceed the six months or in pecuniary sentence that does not exceed the three thousands pounds or even in this two sentences.

Hence why Simon from Paphos Broadband returned to the UK quick - rather than prison.

BTW the Deputy Director's family are from Polis, so it is only a matter of time before someone notices the adverts in Grapevine etc.

Hope this helps.

But nonetheless there are still a few good providers out there, including Holitec who are a viable alternative.
