There is a wiki page on netscape says it was bought by AOL who used it until quite recently, recent versions were based on Mozilla Firefox apparantly ?
Been reading up some more on Chrome, says its particular strength is handling of javascript should make using sites such as facebook noticably faster than FF3 or IE7/8. Each tab runs as its own process and Chrome has its own "task manager" so if one tab loses the plot you can close just that instead of whole browser, avoiding losing what else you were doing/viewing.

The first thing we noticed with Chrome was its speed. It launches like a greyhound out of a trap, with all types of pages loading in incredibly quick time. Side-by-side with Firefox 3 or the recent release of Internet Explorer 8 beta 2, it feels snappier, though timing the load times with a stopwatch revealed there's very little in it.
