Apparantly Over 85% of the "internet population" use Microsoft Internet Explorer but there are other options out there. They all do "the same thing" but sometimes in slightly different ways or have different features. I now have all of the following installed and after a week am pretty sure they don't interfer with each other but i dont run any toolbars or extra plugins.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (beta2)
Mozilla Firefox 3
Google Chrome (beta)

IE8 doesn't render some of my favourites site, but FF3 and Chrome do, and Chrome especially seems to be significantly faster to load certain sites i spend lots of time on (including this one!!).

If you use Microsoft program already why not give the small guys in the market a try ... you might be surprised !

Quite liking google chrome at the moment ... incognito mode, dragging a tab out to a new window, overal feel of the browser - its not heading for Recycle Bin just yet.

I use a mixture of firefox and explorer depending on the site I'm looking at.

I use to have Netscape...I must look up what happen to them as they tried (or did) to sue Microsoft or something.

There is a wiki page on netscape says it was bought by AOL who used it until quite recently, recent versions were based on Mozilla Firefox apparantly ?

Been reading up some more on Chrome, says its particular strength is handling of javascript should make using sites such as facebook noticably faster than FF3 or IE7/8. Each tab runs as its own process and Chrome has its own "task manager" so if one tab loses the plot you can close just that instead of whole browser, avoiding losing what else you were doing/viewing.

Quote:
The first thing we noticed with Chrome was its speed. It launches like a greyhound out of a trap, with all types of pages loading in incredibly quick time. Side-by-side with Firefox 3 or the recent release of Internet Explorer 8 beta 2, it feels snappier, though timing the load times with a stopwatch revealed there's very little in it.

Have been working on the presentation of my site (yes i know it needs it!!) anyway ... the three browsers all present the same box differently

Image

bit of a nightmare knowing which one to choose to make it look right in ... most site users seem to be IE users !

As a matter of interest, to anyone thinking of running with Firefox, which I myself prefer, some sites, if you are buying on the net or reserving seats with airlines, don't work properly with Firefox, I therefore use a mixture of Firefox and IE.

I've found a few that don't work with the google chrome browser either so yes whilst the not-so popular have benefits sometimes IE must be used
