I'm trying to port forward on my PC.

Being following this nice web guidehttp://www.portforward.com/routers.htm.
I need to set up a static IP address. But I need a name server (DNS domain name server) IP Address. Anyone have a clue what this may be? Or is it phoning Cytanet and asking them (what a pain!).

My head is hurting now from all this thinking and looking up stuff.

On your PC (before you have started the static ip address process) Click start, Run, cmd, ipconfig /all and there should be a set of numbers :

"IP Address", "Subnet Mask", "Default Gateway", "DHCP Server", "DNS Server"

Sort of
I posted on a couple of other techincal sites.

We were using a Thomson speech touch modem (give to us and CYTA) and then a Netgear modem as hub. Using the 2 together seemed causing most of the issue we were having. We've re did our set up and got rid of the netgear. This has seem to have resolved a lot of the issues.

Still testing it fully so I still may have port forward, will come back if I have problems again.

If you get stuck again don't hesitate to shout. I've setup plenty of small home networks (and a few medium sized ones) with or without an xDSL as the internet connection so have some experience in these matters.

I've not used the Cyta supplied dsl Thomson modem/router but i understand that by default it is locked down so you won't be able to "legally" setup port forwarding with it. There is/was someone i think that had got into the router to change config etc, if you need it i`ll dig out the blog link.

What application needs to be receiving data from the web ?
