Just bought one of these radios . It works well in any room in the house , but will not pickup the signal outside. Is it possible to boost the signal from the router ?

which router is it ? There maybe option to increase aerial power but i think unlikely. You could add a wireless account point to your router and then have the aerial connected outside via a coaxial wire ?

Thanks for the reply BigDutch. The router is a Netgear wgr614v6. I had a look on ebay and found an aerial/antenna extension , they claim to boost the signal to 500 meters, what do you think?

stormy, I would, personally, not expect to get 300-500m range from a small device like the one you have especially by only changing the aerial. i've not actually had reason to ever use an aerial extension so cannot personally vouch for the impact it will give.

I was thinking more to have Netgear WG102 (connected by network wire to your existing router) then place the aerial outside by way of an extension cable.

Obviously the more new kit you buy the more cash you will need to spend, whether the spend is good value is for you to decide ! I can't even see my laptop screen when i`m outside (sitting in the shade) between 10am and 4pm for most of the year !

The other alternative is to buy 1x wired homeplug, and 1x wi-fi homeplug. Plug the wired one to a Ethernet port on the router and put the wi-fi one in a convenient mains socket near the radio.

Solves the range problem. They are available locally - probably a bit more than another router though.

I have had great results with the ethernet over mains devices. I supply Solwise products to Paphos Computers see http://www.solwise.co.uk for the networking over mains options. I only carry a small stock for our wireless broadband customers and we use the VesaNet products, which have been very good. I try to keep the prices as close to the UK price as possible, but there is a delivery cost to send the items here.

Thanks Digby , that would seem to be the preferred solution depending on the cost.
