Hi folks,

Ok so this may be a little bit of a random question but here's the reasons first. I'm looking to get connected finally with CYTA (or any others??) and I was wondering about how the speeds work with XBOX Live. I know this will probably be quite a specialist question but hopefully a few of you out there will have some experience in this.

It wouldn't bother me back in the UK as you can get blazing speeds for pretty cheap but out here it really is very pricey.

Thanks in advance hopefully guys.

I wonder why "random" has become the latest word to be totally misused. There is nothing random about your question at all.

Why not relate the Xbox performance specs to the broadband specs you are signing up for? Any degradation on performance will be due to local conditions related to your wires etc.

Specifically yours,

Pete

I don't think anyone one who regularly posts/visits on the forum has an Xbox 360.

We have PS3, we have the 8Mbps connection with CYTA, but that is partly due to both of us working from home. One thing with CYTA, they don't seem to have a guarateed connection speed. We very rarely completely lose connection, but during peak times it can slow to a crawl. A lot will depend on were you're located.
The PS3 generally runs fine on the 8Mbps and when we had the 4Mbps it was ok as well. We did have the 2Mbps for a short while, but can't remember really using the PS3 online at the time.

At least with CYTA if you start off with a lower speed and you want to up graded to a high speed, it's really easy to just phone them and ask for the upgrade. There's no additional cost to change between the speeds, just the increase in the monthly payments.
So you could start off at slow speed and just keep increasing until you're happy.

Can't be much help with any other providers as we've not used any. We arrive at in Paphos CYTA was the only really choice. I think Primetel are suppose to be good.

Not sure if it's an issue with the Xbox (probably can be after a quick "google") but we had problems with the NAT setting and we had to get into our modem. CYTA makes you use their specific modem, which did cause us problems when we first setting up.

Pete thank you for your advice with regards to grammar and vocabulary selection. I guess we can't stop language growing and evolving.

Alison, thanks for that. Have done a few google searches with regards to min req with regards to online gameplay and apparently the overall factor with regards to speeds doesn't solely relate to the connection speed. A lot of it is down to the 'ping' so therefore as you said, depends on where you are as this determines how far you are away from the exchange box.

Thanks also for the info about being able to ramp up the speed as and when needed. Great idea to start low and step up.

Much appreciated.
