My son, who works in Muscat and comes to his house, here in Cyprus, several times a year.
Purchased a SKY HD + box in the UK. He was told there that it could be used to record programmes here in Cyprus. Such as BBC, ITV, 4 & 5.

The guy’s who installed the box, and a second cable from the LNB, before he arrived, think that it cannot be used to record programmes he receives here using his Sky White Card.

Can any of you experts out there with a SKY HD + box.

Let us know exactly what you can expect to obtain with his set up.

With being here a relatively short time throughout the year, he is not interested in receiving HD channels all he wants to use the box for is recording.

Yes is the short answer, it can be used with a white freesat card from Sky.
However:
The card needs to be registered to a sky account.
If you do not have a Sky account you can set one up with a UK address and credit card and pay (I think) £10/year to have the box/card combination 'Plus enabled.' The alternative to this is to take out a basic subscription (again I think) £17/month and the plus feature is automatically enabled.
