Will a 'freeview plus' box work here in Cyprus.

If it will what are the advantages / Disavantages?

If it has a hard drive to record onto you can fill it up back in the UK and then have a supply of films etc to watch over here. That is what we did .

If it is indeed a freeview rather than a freesat box, from the UK, then it is likely it won't work over here. The UK uses MPEG2 technology which is a bit out of date now. Cyprus uses MPEG4. It is possible some UK boxes can do both but best check before you bring it over.

I did find one guy who thought a freeview box would get them UK programmes over here. It won't. It gets you around 10 or so Cypriot terrestrial channels and 24 hour Euronews in English. So no Eastenders, which can't be bad!

I *think* that the uk 'HD Freeview' boxes are MPEG4

I've priced up a couple, but they are around 40GBP, so I may as well buy one in Cyprus for our TV.

Any suggestions?
