I have been informed that the forum is receiving postings from two different members from my IP address. That has led people to believe that I am using two names on the forum.

This is NOT so, and I know that there is only me using my computer.

So how can this be happening. By the way I have not been informed of the other name that has been used, from my IP address.

But could they really get this information wrong, I'm not very techie but thought an IP address is linked to your PC, am I right?

Anyone wanting double identities on here (and there could be 1 or 2) would need 2 pc's to get away with it??????????

Spooky indeed. As I said, from what I am told PP has recorded two members posting from my IP address. I was told that if I was using 'Holitec' or a satellite system this may be the reason...... But I am just on Cyta via a normal telephone line.

Normally IP addresses are allocated on a connection by connection basis, each time you start a new session an IP address is given, when you finish that session that IP is returned to the 'pool' ready for re-allocation to another user. So the same IP could well then be used by two different regular uses. If you using a dial-up modem then this is possibly what has happened. However if the ISP uses a NAT system and/or a proxy then all users of that ISP will share the public IP address.

In Cyprus the CYTA DSL Home IP address tends to be 'stuck' to the hardware address of the original connecting device and as DSL Home tends to remain connected for weeks or more the IP address remains the same for long periods. Alternatively you can sometimes pay a little extra for a fixed IP address if you run services that others connect to.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Not specifically two PC's but two different internet connections with two different ISP's, or use a 'VPN' or a remote Proxy .. quite why someone would go to all the effort i have no idea.

If you're using wifi and someone else connects to your system they will have the same IP address. Is your router security setup correctly to prevent this?
