Anyone been watching?

Anybody care who wins?

Personally I prefer watching the women's matches to the mens, and not just because of certain participants!

Yes, I love tennis, play 3 times a week. I prefer teh mens at moment (no, not for obvious reasons!). Finding the womens a bit dull, not really any great characters in it, also the screechi ng is becoming unbearable. As to who wins, well I would like to see Murray win, if not him(doubtful) then Federer. It would be a fantastic achievement and I do think he is the best of the modern era so to beat Sampras record of 14 slams would be amazing.

That bloody insufferable Hewitt won. Thought he was going to lose after he dropped the first two sets.

Disappointing to see Ana Ivanovic having to retire through injury yesterday - she's one of my favourite players! :(

Warming up for the Ashes Tanny. Anything Australian is to be hated

Taking a lot to resist the urge to throw rotten tomatoes at the tele when they show his fans.

Unless of course its a muslim Auzzie, then its thin ice.

Why do the English hate the Aussies so much? It appears to be the same jealousy they have for the Germanys!!

Whenever the Scots jest about hating the Auld enemy the Englanders get on the soap box, so what goes around comes a....

Me I just hate zenophobics when they are foreigners. :?

Did you know that the Greek Language does not have a word for Hotel, it is a Foreigner container.

PS I hope the Scot Mr Murray wins, just to get the monkey off his back, however the British player Mr Murray may be defeated as is his usual standard.

Do you think Murray will surpass the levels of achievement shown by the predecessor Mr Henman.

I think hate is far too strong, my brother-in-law is an Aussie and when they beat us at sport he and his mates like to rub it in, as this happens to regularly one has to be on ones guard to pre-empt their strikes !

They wouldn't be the sort of Aussie that would attract the sort of abuse that is meted out to them.

tanny wrote:

Because they are generally brash, loud, over confident and the sort of people that you just want to punch in the face. All descended from a bunch of convicts too.

tanny wrote:

Would that be the same sort of jealousy that the Cypriots feel for the Turkish?

Personally I have great admiration for Germany in general. Their engineering is amazing. Love Porshes, Mercedes, Steiff and much more.

I'd always got the impression that, in general, Cypriots were very racist.

My opinion is that people are all generally tribalistic. The Yorks hate the Lancs and vice versa, the English hate the Welsh and think they are all sheep sh*****s, the Scots hate the English and feel somehow oppressed by them, the English hate the French because, well I'm not quite sure why, the Welsh hate the English and used to show it by burning down holiday homes that the English bought.

Am hard pushed to think of any nation that actually love their neighbours.

I do too.
tanny wrote:

Yes I do. He is a far better player.

ps. I use the word hate just for effect.

Puzzled me too Molly so put it in search engine and found film of that name which is:-

The film exposes the racism obscured by myth-making Hollywood accounts of the American West, but in a highly satirical way; the racist slur "nigger" is heard 17 times in Blazing Saddles, while the film's hero is black.

Molly I know its not important in that manner, but in many ways the intellectual use of the name and direct excert shows a modicom of intellectual balance.

ps share it with us, who is it?

I'm amazed there's people out there who haven't seen Blazing Saddles! Mind you, having said that I've never seen ET which seems to surprise people. :offtopic

Back on topic, looks like we're buidling towards a Murray-Federer final in the mens singles. May be unpatriotic, but I'll be supporting the Fed in that one!

Odds on an all Williams final in the ladies...

The longest ever womens semi-final followed by what must be one of the shortest.

I almost felt cheated after the 2nd semi, such a whitewash was it. How Safina got to be seeded No 1 is beyond me.
Money has to be on Venus to win the final. Serena must be exhausted after playing for so long in that heat.

Should be a good final - I like Roddick but I think Federer will be a class above.

Really good final - glad to see Fed get his record - brilliant acheivement!

And for anyone feeling sorry for Roddick, this is who he gets to go home to for comfort and sympathy:

What I really thought must have been hard was the knowledge that you could lose a match, if it hadn't gone to 5 sets without ever having your service broken. Roddick broke Federer's serve twice during the match yet the one break that went to Federer won him the match.
There was very little between them which was the same for the womens semi final between Dementieva and Serena. That was a brilliant match.

In some ways I think tennis has become a little boring because it is largely either a slog fest or down to who has the biggest serve.

Am a little mystified by the ranking system which sees Serena holding the US Open, The French and now Wimbledon but Safina still being ranked number 1. She was completely whitewashed in the semis.
