We started Ameobi and Carroll, Nolan just pushed up later on. We also had super Nile Ranger come on for his debut - lad is only 18 but been scoring for fun for the reserves and England under-19's and looks a real prospect.

I actually really enjoyed the game - our lads showed a bit of unexpected spirit which bodes quite well for the season ahead. Looks like people like Smith and Duff might have found their level....

I'm looking forward to seeing us play in games where we'll be expected to win the majority - being favourites most of the time will make a very pleasant change from massed ranks of defence and damage limitation against the "Sky 4" or however many of them there are this season. if I was still living in the UK I would really enjoy some of the away days too - it can be a cracking day out being part of a Geordie horde descending on some remote football outpost in your thousands.

Pleasantly surprised by how many of our games have been picked up for live screening too - main worry getting relegated was that I wouldn't get to see any games but doesn't look like that will be too much of a problem.

Just need to sort our a new owner, manager and players now....

Well guess what? I'm actually enjoying watching football again! Our lads were great on Saturday, dominating from start to finish against a team that only just missed automatic promotion last season.

And if Goala Ameobi can score a hat-trick then all things are possible in this league!

Just need to hope we still have at least 11 players left by the time the window closes.....

Darren bent = mackems

One man team - without his goals you would be in the bottom 3 for sure, and if he gets injured, you'll drop like a stone...

Oh BTW, I am told that the studio guests on Goals On Sunday are Steve Bruce and Niall Quinn.
Two great guys in a sleazy Soccer World.
May be wrong but there you go.
Somehow I don't think we'll be seing Mike Ashley and A.N.Other being invited anytime soon.

I don't know what to think of that tbh.

On the question of geordie supremacy can anyone explain how Mathew Killgallon chose Sunderland over Newcastle ?
Not the first to do it I know, but maybe my geordie friends can offer an explanation.

Money I should imagine - Ashley isn't offering anyone big wages, which is probably reasonably sensible in our current situation. Even Danny Simpson is only getting 10k a week by all accounts.

Good to see Geordie Bruce confining his transfer targets to either:

-Players linked with Newcastle
-Players who used to play for Newcastle

Doesn't your club have any scouts of their own??

Poor FA Cup weekend for both clubs.

We rested several of our first team as concentrating on the league is far more imporant - guess the mackems did the same so they can save themselves for the relegation scrap ahead??

I'll be honest Martin and tell you that I am more cheesed off this weekend than I was after the Chelsea drubbing.
For weeks Bruce has used injured players as an excuse but he had four back on Saturday and we were unable to beat the bottom club.
Everton away on Wednesday and Stoke at home on Monday. Lose both of them and his position will be dodgy to say the least.
You are right though, we are in another relegation scrap.
Gary

Another win for the Geordies, another miserable defeat for the mackems - Agent Bruce is excelling himself! :D

Serious question, how many more games without a win before his job is in serious doubt? I know Quinn likes to stick with his managers, but this guy seems completely clueless at the moment...

I agree Martin, he now looks like a typical Geordie....................
Overweight, Ugly, Hairstyle from yesteryear, Broken Nose and................... Clueless !
I don't know how long he'll get or how long he should get, it's been nigh on 3 months now.
For me anything other than a win against Stoke and he should go( er I think)
As individuals our players look good and have a good pedigree, put them all together and they look like they've never met before. That must be down to the Manager and the coaching staff, surely ?
Gary

Well this weekend I've sat through 2 appalling 0-0 draws and none of the 4 teams involved looked anyhwere near Premier League quality - hope you didn't pay good money to watch that last night Gary.

Newcastle are still unbeaten in 14 in the league, but drawing a few now and playing poorly, while the mackems are now close to freefall...

p.s. Lee Cattermole is a nasty, dirty thug of a player - makes Joey Barton look like a choir boy!

That's a lot less than it cost me !
On a night when we should have played it on the floor Steve Bruce obviously told the defenders to hoof it up to Kenwyne Jones which played right into Stoke's hands. I had the feeling Stoke came for the draw and they got it but James, we are so poor at the mo they could have won if they'd put their foot on the pedal.
I wonder about Bruce, I really really do.

Well I think Steve Bruce is doing a great job - must have got lessons from Sam Allardyce at St James - same tactics, long high balls to nowhere, playing players out of position, crap substitutions. Long may he reign!!!

It's a football stadium that had over 44,000 people in it last night - I can understand that seems an alien concept to you though.

How many do you reckon will make their weary way to the stadium of plight today?? :D

Not as many as that. It's easy to follow a team that is winning and as I am sure you will agree, not so easy when your team is losing.
This attendance thing is getting like a stuck record. I can not come on here and offer the reasons why your attendances are bigger than ours every week so stop bringing it up.
As for supremacy, just remember, we are in the top league, on merit. You are still trying to get there.
So you are quite obviously not as good as us
Tatty Bye, I'm making my weary way to the Stadium of Plight

I was thinking about this over the weekend - obviously getting relegated was a shocker, but I honestly think i would rather be having a season like we're having, unbeaten in 15 and winning and scoring plenty, rather than scrapping around at the bottom of the Premier League wiithout a win in 3 months.

What's the point of being in the top league if you can't compete?

You weren't saying that last season.
As for not competing, well then all but 4 or 5 teams should either pack up or try to get relegated then.
This is about North East supremacy. We are in the Premier league................... you are not.

Shocking evening all round last night - typical Newcastle to follow our best result of the season with our worst! :(

Hats off to Agent Bruce though - at 1-0 up against 10 men at the bottom club even he must have been wondering how he was going to avoid getting the 3 points!

On a serious note, even I will not blame Bruce for last night. That was a good perfomance from everyone of our players except the two numpties who were sent off.
That's 3 unbeaten for us  The Pompey fans and players were really up for it and a lot of visiting teams would have lost that.
The team showed a lot of spirit last night and that is a good sign.
I am not too bothered about the defeat of Newcastle last night, more concerned with my own lot.
Gary

You didn't miss much with our game at Swansea - seems every time we're on the telly we play terrible!

Decent result last night though - hopefully our home form will see us OK.

Martin, if you don't do it now, you've only got yourselves to blame !
Mind, there is still a third of the season to go !
We go to Arsenal this weekend with no midfielders, once again testament to Steve Bruce's " I like to work with a small squad" mentality

Wasn't your last win against Arsenal? if they play that same dodgy keeper they had in against Porto all you need to do is have a few shots and you'll be laughing!
