Nice to see the mackems scraping a home win against Stoke, good of the ref to allow them to use 2 goalkeepers, probably understandable when you think they got spanked for 5 when they only had 1.

Of course, we were much too busy turning Arsenal over on their own patch to worry about such minor concerns. :D

And not that you'll need cheering up right now but by this time next week you should be 8 points clear of us.
You have 2 home bankers, we have Spurs and Chelsea...........both away.
Oh dear, Gary

Sounds good in theory, but our 3 home bankers so far this season (Blackpool, Stoke and Wigan) have only got us 1 point, and that took a last minute equaliser, so I won't be counting any chickens!

Blackburn have won on their last 4 visits to Newcastle as well, and you can bet Big Fat Sam will have them fired up...

From NUFC.com

For the game against Blackburn on Wednesday there will be three versions of the match programme will be on sale - all with identical content, but three different covers, each depicting one of Kevin Nolan's hat trick goals against the mackems. If you want to guarantee a set, The Back Page are taking orders now, priced @ £11 for all three, including UK postage. Ring and reserve on 0191 261 5005

What is this obsession you have with us ?

I think a 5-1 spanking deserves commemorating - your lot brought out a celebratory DVD after a scrappy 2-1 win a few years back!

Decent result last night, happy to see a draw as it keeps both teams below us - hope we can do the business against Big Fat Sam tonight...

That's a sensational result - watched the game and it was well deserved. Could even have been more if Ivanovic had been sent off in the first half like he should have been.

Thought occurred to me - could you actually be a better team without Darren Bent?? Not so one-dimensional and reliant on one player.....

Chelsea have only conceded 7 goals at home all season - 3 to you, but we were just a little bit better and scored 4. It's a funny old game.

You played them in a game that didn't matter.
In the Premier League Chelsea had conceded NO goals at home prior to yesterday.
Oh and you can stick your Darren Bent FC where the sun don't shine now, can't you ?!

Martin, I'm over that now. We just didn't turn up and you played very well.
It was a freak result.
We will not play as bad as that again this season but can you repeat that performance ?
I suspect even you believe we may be the better team.
That debacle has been a kick up the backside for us and we've had 3 great results since that terrible day.
Our performance against Chelsea, Chelsea 0 Sunderland 3 was awesome.
I am quietly confident that our drubbing at your place could be the catalyst for us to move onwards and upwards.
Only about 7 weeks till we get our revenge and point to the league table where we will be soaring above you.
You know it's true.
Gary

You can tell yourself that as much as you like, but we both know that was an absolutely shattering, once-in-a-lifetime thrashing the likes of which will probably never be avenged in your lifetime. It was all the sweeter because this was the season we were supposed to be underdogs, but we handed out a beating of the severity that even the great Keegan and Robson teams couldn't match.

No matter what else you achieve this season, it'll always be the year you were humiliated by the mags! :D

Plus, it provided enough material to keep my Shola thread going for another couple of years. :celebrate

Martin, you may well dine out on it for a long time, but believe me, if we avenge it in 7 weeks and finish above you, we will have forgotten about it.

Do you think if you keep talking about it, it'll never go away ?
Do you think if you keep talking about it then your 5-1 defeat at Bolton didn't happen ?

Just when things are starting to go along nicely............... Bramble and Turner both out for months rather than weeks, Mensah still out.
Three first choice centre backs unavailable.

I sincerely apologise for my lack of banter this week - have the parents visiting so have been enjoying some well deserved time off! (and they take 100% of the blame for the Bolton defeat by the way! Ventured into the supposed Paphos mackem HQ of the Frog and Toad for that one and it had been completely taken by the Toon Army)

Normal service will be resumed next week. :D

I am not gonna comment till I see what developes. There is hell on up here with Ashley being slaughtered again.
I know Hughton seems a respectable bloke and all that and it looks like it's a bad way to deal with him but you never know in football what might happen.
Martin Jol resigning from Ajax may be significant.

This is up there with the sacking of Sir Bobby !
Where is the sense in this ?
I don't want to be labelled obsessed but as a football fan I can see no sense in this.
This is a canny read

Very, very disappointing to lose Hughton in what seems to be a very underhanded manner, but I suppose if you can only beat the mackems 5-1 you can’t be that good a manager. :doh Bloke has far too much class and dignity to be associated with the goons running our club - he's best off out of it.

Pardew is a strange appointment, but it's worth noting he has a far better managerial record than a certain Steve Bruce (win percentage of 44% to 37% in a similar number of games, plus a trophy and a cup final appearance) and at least has the benefit of being Ashley’s own man so if he backs him properly might do OK. Big, big job on his hands to win over the fans, and especially the dressing room....

Say what you like about the toon, it’s never boring….

You are best out of it too !
You keep banging on about that win, it obviously means a lot more to you than it does to me.
I mean it must mean a lot to you to be able to beat the North East top dogs.
If someone had offered me the deal that we lost 5-1 to you but you got relegated and we had a canny season, I'd have snapped their hands off.

Keep telling yourself this and you may believe he is a great manager.
Although I bet Bruce has managed more in the top division than Pardew.
I don't think we have a great manager but I know we have a great owner and a fantastic chairman.
