This should be good news for all the toons out there.

Wonder if Shearer will come in to learn the ropes.

Its so unfair that the Newcastle v Stoke isn't live on TV now, especially with the possibility of King Kev being there in front of 52000 fans

His first match will be against Bolton on Saturday, so god help them I say, so now we need to beat Stoke tonight & then get on & meet Arsenal in the FA Cup..

Russ - are you saying that there are two places needed? You are only down for one. Do you want me to add another? If you pm'd me I didn't get it.

i love this idea that all you need for champions league football these days is an open wallet... £90million will get you a few world class players, but will not buy the "strength and depth" you need to compete... just look at what happened to everton when they did get champions league football? ipswich, bolton in the uefa? tottenham?
more to the point... LEEDS! (lesson; ever since their famous airport stunt, there really has been "only one united in europe"!)

it takes more than a few soundbites and three £30m players to become one of the "big four"!

by all means pay £30m+ for the stroppy spud... most man utd fans don't actually want him!

That's not exactly true, look at Chelski, they couldn't even get into the top 6 until Abramovich took over & spent £200m on the team.. so it proves it can be done & the £90m is only this seasons war chest...
Ashley wants to win something with Newcastle, so he's willing to bankroll the club without going into debt again, unlike ManUSA owners.. whats the debt now £800m or close by

Ashley is worth £2b, so a few 100m is nothing, bit like Abramavich but the difference is, he's British mate, which is a bonus

If he didn't think he would win anything or was wasting his money, he'd have brought another club, ie Spurts, Everton, Blackburn etc so it won't be this season & maybe not even next but I think we'll win something in the next 3 years, you heard it here first

Theres maybe been a mistake somewhere, clearly after the bolton match the guy they are talking about is Messi ah, Hes Lionel Messi's older brother (aged 57) and normally collects seaweed and other flotsam by the river.

In a stange sort of way drawing with Bolton is an ideal result - stops any unrealistic expectations kicking off straight away, and hopefully gets the media to pipe down for a bit while we get on with our business...

Next season will be when we start to see the major beneifts of the Keegan effect! :D

You haven't got any excuses at all but you will think of them all day long.
Well there's a big hint in one of the nationals today that Shearer may turn the toon doon.
He's banging on about his love of the club but broadly hints that his first taste of management may well be elsewhere.
Might just be raising the stakes with Ashley and KK who knows.
Personally I think he'll go into management elswewhere and take Rob Lee with him. Don't know if there's space for Lee at the toon.
Eeh we'll all find out soon eh ?

KK must be delighted that his middle name isnt Keith otherwise he would be decribed as KKK, his supporters would be KKK sympathisers, opponents would be KKK objectors, and his dressmakers would be the Acme table cloth company!!! And no need to dress up for Guising night.

Bigger question that needs answered is would he still give Martins a game, or would Martins be cleaning boots!!!

DP - so you're saying that having 9 first team players out isn't an excuse but it is if Man U or Chelski have the same

The fact that we have a team of non-premiership players plying together for the first time in a league they know nothing about isn't a reasonable excuse but then when Arsenil get in a few foreigners & commentators say 'they need time to settle in' is ok too :?

The fact that RK is buying as many Irish & ex Man USA players to try & keep you lot up but if anyone else buys ex Man USA players, oh they're only trying to emulate Man USA

I could go on, about having a New Owner, a New Chairman, a New Manager, almost a complete New Team and still 7 places ahead of you're lots & not fighting relegation but I'll leave it there until you reply as to why we have no excuses :D

Pete mate' You are like a stuck record. I've heard all those excuses before. You came up with them once your lot started being very indifferent with Fat Sam in charge. New Manager, new coaches new this new that, just accept it mate you are nowt special.
I'm waiting for you to blame the new barmaid in Shearer's bar.......... I wouldn't put it past you

What the Irish lass? Well, she came with an excellent reputation and had performed really well in previous, less responsible jobs, but just doesn't seem able to handle the extra pressure of this role and not only has her performance suffered, but she's started getting abusive and violent towards other employees!

Word is they want to get rid of her but are terrified how she'll react, plus she's on a really good contract that will need a big pay-off and they'll really struggle to replace her with anyone with such a good reputation....

No problems like that at your place though eh DP??

He's been in charge for little over 2 weeks & already those southern tabliods are after his resignation: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... -20303285/

I have no idea why but after only 3 games in charge, 2 of which were against Arsenil & lost, they seem to think that we'll get shot of KK, they obviously don't understand what the Geordie nation think or feel about KK & they never will, as none of them have ever had anyone like him

The closest they came was Chelski & Mourinho but they soon got over him but just imagine what their fans would be like if & its a big IF, he came back
