Lewis Hamilton of McLaren is Formula One's youngest ever champion after finishing fifth in the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Felipe Massa of Ferrari won in front of his home crowd, but it wasn't enough to erase the seven-point lead Hamilton held entering the season-ending F1 race.

Hamilton needed to finish fifth or better to win the title at age 23, and he did just that after overtaking Toyota's Timo Glock on the last lap.

Fernando Alonso won the 2005 title for Renault at age 24.

Hamilton had been overtaken by Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel with two laps to go, falling to sixth place and out of contention for the title.

But the Briton recovered to move up one spot and finish the season with 98 points, one more than Massa.

Saw the race and have to say the last few laps with the rain were very exciting. Very pleased for Lewis, who must be odds on for the BBC Sports Personality of the year.

How long do you think it will be before Ferrari or the F1 management find a reason to try and penalise Hamilton so that Massa can be crowned champion after all.

Cheers

John

It nearly happened, as when Lewis got out of his car, he had trouble getting the steering wheel back on was about to leave it on the car until a steward told him if he did, he would be disqualified as per the rules

Don't be surprised if that doesn't come back to haunt him & the F1A don't find something wrong with the race :o

You can image he got that sotred fast

Well done Lewis, lets hope its the first of many titles :clap :clap
