Post subject:  Palia Ilektriki - a breath of fresh air.

I must admit to being a bit jaded when it comes to restaurants. A bit restraunted out to be frank, and fed up with:
"do you want chips or jacket"
Trying to upgrade my bill by offering a few scrappy bits of garlic bread.
Topping up my glass without being asked in order that I buy more wine.
Zorba the bl**dy Greek, again.
Good presentation consisting of keeping the food on the plate.
Tuesday night is Greek dancing night.
"Ketchup or mayonaise?"
Out of control children.
Pretending Philippinas are Japanese in the Japanese restaurants.
10% discount if you eat before you really wanted to.
People describing McDonalds as a restaurant.
Getting the food disturbingly quickly but waiting for ever for the bill.
Ethnic restaurants with local owners.
People who season their food before they taste it.
Tourists that don't eat "foreign muck".
Being surrounded by people who seem to be auditioning for "The only way is Essex".
Children's menus.
The truly dreadful Fat Mamas.
etc.

So, Meldrew moment over, I have to say my faith is restored. I went for a meal at Palia Ilektriki.
A lovely quirky little place with most of the seating outdoors under huge umbrellas. Run by a husband (who cooks) and wife (who waitresses). The food is Mediterannian including some Cyprus dishes. Don't expect Kleftico or Stifado. The emphasis is on delicate flavours and excellent presentation. These people really care about their food and it is excellently cooked. The best meal I have had for a long time.
For a main I had bream. I am used to getting my bream as a whole grilled fish slapped on a plate with some misc veg. Here the bream is filleted, cooked to perfection, and served on a bed of perfectly cooked seasonal veg. Wonderful.
The three course meal for 4 including wine came to just over 100 euros. Excellent value.
It's on the old town next to the Europe Direct office. See https://www.facebook.com/pages/Palia-Il ... 2683452111 for more info.
