Post subject:  Stroumbi Tavern

Many years ago, we used this eating house frequently, good food, good wine, plastic table cloths - so be it
So it was with great interest we saw that the Tavern had changed hands - good idea for Sunday Lunch - Not!!!
We telephoned to book a table, "yes sir, no problem, but we are very busy on Sunday" so at 12.3o we arrived - deserted!!!
A vey pleasant young man directed us to any table we would like (there were reserved notces on all the other tables)
During this time he chewed gum continually, he informed us of the starters/main courses, a little later, we were approached by another person, who was "management" and he informed us again of the choices available. The Lamb sounded good - cooked with wine and cranberries/mint - so we decided on that as apposed to the equally slow cooked beef in Horseraddish sauce. The "bacon cocktail" was very acceptable - rashers of bacon with a Marie Rose sauce, lettuce etc., The main course was appalling - frozen veg partially cooked, roast potatoes, not browned, Yorkshire pudding that could have been dropped on "Berlin" The gravy was like dishwater, and the same consistency, the vegetables, lukewarm, the lamb like pieces of string.
The only redeeming feature of this exercise, was we were told, that the chef from "Village Inn" would be joining them, hopefully to redeem their now tarnished image.
Much money has been spent on the infrastructure, what a waste when good food has been mutilated
