CF and I went with the parents to Gastronomie on Thursday night and it was an absolute delight - fine dining for a mere 9.99 euros. The food was beautifully presented and tasted absolutely divine!

I had the crispy bacon and poached egg bruschetta followed by the Chiken Chasseur with crunchy roast potatoes then topped it off with a dessert of meringue with a forest fruit jus. I couldn't fault it!

Barabara has thought of everything to make your dining experience a real treat, you even get a jug of water on the table so no extortionate bottled water prices to add onto the meal!!

We're definitely getting ourselves back there asap, I want to try the entire menu!

We had my husband's surprise birthday there on the 14th of October. We were treated like royalty. There was 7 of us and we all had the set meal at 9.99 each and we had SIX CARAFES of house wine at 7.00 euros each. total bill of 112.00 euros. Cant beat that even if i cooked at home. :D :D :D
In this day and age we need to watch our pockets but it is still great to have a good night out! Thank you Gastronomie! :clap

PS WISH MY PHONE HAD SUCH GOOD SMILIES :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate

Some friends invited me there last weekend........ what a great
place. It is nicely decorated, has a warm and welcoming feel,
and the food is both delicious and good value, well done to Barbara
who runs it. Will definitely be frequenting Gastronomie again.

The Christmas Day menu may have looked great.

However on the day it was a cold & expensive disappiontment to say the least.

Certainly will not be going for my next Christmas dinner

To reply to Charnwood Forest's comment on the Gastronomie. Having eaten there many times, including this Christmas Day with friends, who had nothing but praise for the food and service. None of my guests found the meal to be cold, as for the price, last Christmas it was 68 euros, which is 39.95 cyp pounds, that was the price 3 years ago. The owner, in my opinion, because of the recession, has tried to keep the price to a minimum, only charging 39.95 euros which is under 24 cyprus pounds. The quality however, again in my opinion, was not compromised. I have already booked for next Christmas, as have my friends.

I would point out that McDonalds do a passable happy meal for 5 euros, and as its fast food I am sure you would be guaranteed it will be hot. :there

Strange first post!!!!!!!
Most people introduce themselves!!!!!!
Makes you wonder doesn't it?
I'm also amazed that any restaurant is taking bookings 1 year in advance!!!!!

Sherlock I along with many others use the Gastonomie a lot and have never been disappointed by the food or the service, Barbara and her staff are wonderful.

I am glad you enjoyed your meal there along with some others on Christmas Day, but the post before yours did not and is entitled to their opinion.

I too along with friends went on christmas day.

I thought your comment about Macdonalds was sarcastic, especially as it is your first post.

On this forum we try to be friendly and listen to others opinions, and I think we all think very carefully when writing about places to visit, restaurants, especially as it is someones livelihood we are talking about, especially so as one persons idea of find dining may be totally different to someone else's.

Hi Sherlock

Follow up to my post on our Christmas day meal.

There was nine of us on the table and not one was happy with the meal.

We booked in for 2 pm and it took till 5-45 to complete the meal. In anybodys book this is slow and hence the reason for cold food. Not many staff about to do any serving this did not help.

Christmas pudding when it eventually came was like an uncooked runny cake mixture, yuk.

Conclusion- They had too many people booked for the meal in a very smallish room, could not cope satisfactury with the ammount of people at the meal.
