to support our wounded

Here we are again, the beginning of the season, some families have already been to enjoy the Cypriot hospitality in our M.A.R.C.H. donated villas/apartments. We have had injured personnel, including a double amputee and a C5 tetraplegic. Thankfully we were donated a minibus with wheelchair lift from ARRIVA PLC, UK, without this we would not have been able to accommodate our wheelchair bound guest. One of his carers said “how fantastic it was to come here to Cyprus and Steve be able to do things and go places he has not been able to in years. Usually on holiday we just hang around a hotel but this year he, his wife and 2 young daughters were able to travel around. We got to Paphos Zoo, the beach and out to dinner on numerous occasions, and Steve sunbathed for the first time in years” because the disabled adapted bungalow we put them in had a high sun bed and pool hoist, although it was still cold even Steve got a dip in the pool.
On this occasion we were helped out by R.B.L .with a mobility allowance donation which helped to pay for the specially adapted villa. We have other occasions this year, when we are going to have to hire the specialized bungalow which costs us approximately €600 per week so if you would like to help our severely wounded military personnel with donations for this please contact Alan Wilson on 99850355. We are hoping to raise enough funds to eventually buy this property which is up for sale now.
Other donations to raise funds for our new minibus came from a “Horse racing” night at the “Wishing Well” in Geroskipou, R.A.F.A. and from “Paphos Zingers” and “Bosom Buddies” whose next event to raise funds for M.A.R.C.H. is on May 6th with ex Radio Caroline DJ Roger Matthews at the Old Kamarouthi Taverna in Konia, starting at 8pm. Tickets at a cost of only €5 each can be obtained by ringing 99850355 or 99389073. With the extra financial obligations that the minibus has put on us for shipping, registration in Cyprus, Road Tax, insurance, M.O.T. and fuel, some of which has been offset by fundraising by “Paphos Zingers” etc. we would be very appreciative if you feel you would like to donate by visiting our website (http://www.march-cy.org) or calling 99850355. Companies wishing to sponsor M.A.R.C.H. can have their logo advertised on our disability minibus which will be travelling to all parts of the island. The bus, when not in use for our injured, will be used at no cost, to support local Cypriot and other nationality organizations, allowing wheelchair bound and disabled people to be taken out for day trips, etc.
We are also still in desperate need of 2/3 bedroom villas/apartments for July, August and September as we still have 8 injured personnel and their families that we need to accommodate so if you own a property here in the Paphos region that will be unoccupied during those months and are willing to donate it to M.A.R.C.H. please call Alan on 99850355. All properties will be considered as most of our amputees move around well on their prosthetic limbs.
Our other major purchase was a set of car hand controls for the use of our lower limb amputees to allow them the freedom of driving themselves around our beautiful island of Cyprus.
